In 2005, 7.2 million units were sold, and by 2019, this number had increased to 9.9 million, representing a 37% increase over the 15 year period. The average annual growth rate for this period was 2.4%, indicating a strong and consistent market demand for commercial air conditioners in the United States. The greatest year-on-year increase occurred between 2008 and 2009, when units sold jumped 7.7% from 7.7 million to 7.9 million. This was followed by a more modest 5% increase between 2015 and 2016, when sales rose from 9.1 million to 9.3 million units.
