Stop Chasing Leads: 3 Simple Tactics to Attract Customers Automatically

Running a commercial contracting business is no small feat. You’re wearing all the hats—managing operations, delivering top-notch service, and growing your customer base. To help, we sat down with Kate Blumberg, BuildOps’ Director of Demand Generation, Erica Yoon, our Product Marketing Specialist, and RC Victorino, who leads Content at BuildOps, to discuss strategies for attracting more leads without piling on extra work.

Check out the full conversation below, along with key takeaways you can start using today.

Build Trust with Reviews

“Reviews are an important point of social proof,” Kate shared. “When potential customers search for your business, they’re asking two things: ‘Do you provide the services I need?’ and ‘Can I trust you to deliver?’ Reviews often answer that second question.”

Kate recommended asking for reviews shortly after completing a job and making the process easy for customers. She explained that businesses can help by providing clear instructions and direct links to review platforms, reducing barriers for customers to share their experiences.

Be Helpful, Not Salesy, on Forums

Erica shared insights from her experience as a former Reddit marketer, describing how forums like Reddit can uncover valuable customer insights. “It’s not about promoting yourself,” she explained. “It’s about participating in relevant conversations and being genuinely helpful. That’s where trust begins.”

She highlighted that authentic engagement—whether it’s answering questions or addressing common industry challenges—helps build credibility and connections with potential customers.

Leverage AI to Generate Leads

RC emphasized how AI tools like ChatGPT can help save time and bring fresh ideas to your business. “AI can serve as a brainstorming partner,” he shared. “The key is to start with clear, specific input about your goals or business needs, then refine the output to make it useful.”

RC outlined several ways to use AI effectively, including:

  • Generating content ideas tailored to your audience.
  • Drafting follow-up messages or emails that sound professional and personalized.
  • Creating frameworks for blog posts or case studies, saving hours of work.
